Not at all! Unearthed is designed for beginners and experienced rockhounds alike. We'll teach you everything you need to know before heading into the mines, and you'll have guidance throughout the retreat.
-
We'll provide a welcome gift with many of the essentials you'll use while digging, but we recommend bringing:
Comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty
Long pants (recommended for digging)
Hiking boots or sturdy sneakers with good tread
Sunscreen
Your favorite bug spray
A hat and sunglasses
A light rain jacket (we'll also have disposable ponchos available)
Refillable water bottle
Any favorite snacks
Tylenol or your preferred pain reliever for those "I dug for crystals all day" muscles!
A yoga mat if you have it!
Comfy clothes for yoga practices.
April in Mt. Ida typically brings daytime highs of 72–74°F and overnight lows around 47–50°F, making layers your best friend. We also recommend checking the forecast before your trip so you can pack accordingly.
-
Absolutely not.
This retreat is designed to be flexible. Yoga is always optional, workshops are optional, and if you'd rather spend an afternoon relaxing on the porch than digging, that's perfectly okay.
During our mine days, we'll also check in with the group to make sure everyone is comfortable. If you're ready to head back to the resort before the rest of the group, we'll work together to make that happen whenever possible.
-
The closest major airport is Little Rock National Airport (LIT), approximately 1½ to 2 hours from Mt. Ida.
Guests are responsible for arranging transportation to the resort. If you're flying, please let us know when you register so we can coordinate seating for rides to and from the crystal mines during the retreat.
-
Your retreat includes:
Two packed lunches during our mine days
Welcome Dinner on the first evening
Celebration Dinner on our final evening
The resort also offers an on-site restaurant, and there is a Subway nearby for additional meal options.
If you have dietary restrictions, please let us know when registering.
-
Not necessarily.
The crystal mines we'll be visiting are approximately 10–20 minutes from the resort. We'll discuss carpooling during our welcome meeting on the first evening so everyone has transportation throughout the retreat.
-
We'll gather for our Welcome Dinner around 7:30 PM on arrival day.
If your travel plans have you arriving after 10:00 PM, don't worry! We'll make sure you're caught up the following morning so you won't miss anything important.
-
Crystal mining is a fun outdoor activity that can be as active as you'd like to make it. Some guests may spend hours digging and exploring, while others may prefer to search at a slower pace or take breaks throughout the day. We'll encourage everyone to listen to their body, and there is no expectation that you need to keep up with anyone else. Our goal is for everyone to have an enjoyable and rewarding experience, regardless of fitness level.
Ps-Don’t worry, this isn’t swinging a pickaxe all day and you won’t find these treasures in a dark cave! Many of the best finds are laying right out in the open!
-
Absolutely! Many of our guests travel solo. If you select shared accommodations, we'll thoughtfully pair you with another solo guest whenever possible. In the rare event we're unable to find a compatible roommate, we'll make sure you're comfortably accommodated before the retreat begins.
-
YES! This is one of the coolest parts about this trip, all the mines we will visit allow you to keep anything you can carry out! You are guaranteed to go home with some beautiful new treasures!
