LINDA HERMANN

Although I first encountered yoga in my mid-teens, I became dedicated to my practice after a breast cancer diagnosis in 2015. Yoga offered me a place on my mat to become present and gently move as my body healed. I received my 200-hour Teacher Training through Day Yoga in Dayton in 2022 and received my certification in Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra ® through Jennifer Reis in May 2023. Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation through the subtle bodies of the Koshas, using body sensing, breath awareness and guided imagery. This practice can help with insomnia, anxiety and the everyday stresses of life. I enjoy teaching gentle, yin, and restorative classes that offer a nourishing and welcoming space, rooted in breath work, meditation, and movement. Being in community with others on their mats is truly a joy and an honor. When not on my mat I enjoy spending time in nature, gardening and working with fiber arts. I live in Troy, Ohio with my husband, Peter, and Goldendoodle, Elle. We have five grown children and four adventurous, creative and curious grandchildren that are truly the light and love of my life.

Selected Quote from Linda:

“The door to the world of the wild self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door. If you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost can not bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.”
Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Q-What inspired you to be a yoga teacher?

A-My own healing journey through the diagnosis of breast cancer in 2015.  I began practicing yoga on a regular basis toward the end of my radiation treatments.  My body was fatigued, and the stress had taken a toll on my mental health. Yoga provided a place on my mat to experience opening and release in my body, mind and heart space through breath work, gentle postures (asanas), and mindful meditations. The benefits I received on the mat followed me off the mat into my daily life as well. Life became more peaceful and manageable. This  lead me to want to share this life-giving gift with others.

Q-Where and with whom did you train?

A-I completed my 200 hr training with Devon Schmidt of Day Yoga in 2022. I also completed an additional certification in Divine Sleep ® with Jennifer Reis in 2023 as well as Five Element Yoga® with Jennifer.

Q-How long have you been teaching and what styles of class do you teach?

A- I have been teaching since 2022.  I currently teach Gentle, Restorative, and Yoga Nidra.

Q-How do you continue to deepen your own practice and knowledge?

A-I am a lifelong learner and  honor the lineage of all those who have come before us and handed down these beautiful teachings. I continue to deepen my understanding of these offerings through certifications and trainings.  I'm dedicated to my own meditation and asana practice and believe in the power of the beginner's mind.

Q-How do you integrate mindfulness and spirituality into your teaching?

A-I weave this in with grounding, centering, meditations. I invite in an awareness for those practicing with me to remember they are held by more than gravity. There is a deeply compassionate force shaping the container of our being, and within each of us lives a unique, divine spark that is our authentic self. The yoga mat is a beautiful, curious and inviting space to experience Connection, Peace, Understanding and Trust.

Q-What advice would you give to someone just starting their yoga journey?

A-There is no wrong way to do yoga. All parts of your body, mind, emotions, and story are most welcomed. Bring all to the mat. It's called a practice for a reason.
