II first discovered Yoga in college over 20 years ago in 2000 when I took a semester of Hatha Yoga at Ball State University. I was immediately fascinated by this ancient practice. It was the first time I had ever heard about the mind-body connection. It was also my first introduction to meditation and breathing practices. Unfortunately, Yoga was not yet a common practice in Midwest Indiana. Yoga slipped away from me as I graduated and moved into busy adult life full of challenges, joy, and suffering.

In 2017, after feeling burnt out and tired from work, life, and mainstream fitness programs, I remembered Yoga. Thankfully, a lovely new Yoga studio (The Corner Mat) had recently opened, and I became a regular practitioner. I quickly realized it wasn't just my body and mind that were burnt out—my soul desperately needed this practice. Through Yoga, I reconnected with myself and cultivated a deeper capacity for self-love, which naturally extended to those around me. I began to understand the space between what happens to me and how I respond. I learned to pause, breathe, and recognize that my thoughts were not always truth. I started to value stillness. I started to pray again. Yoga gave me a taste of Sukha—a deep, lasting state of happiness and comfort that is always within us, waiting to be accessed again and again.

In 2020, I again felt my practice slipping away. I moved away from Indiana to Dayton and married my amazing husband. However, COVID isolated me from finding a studio and a community to practice with. I did my best to practice online and set up a space at home, but I longed for connection. In September 2021, I started my Yoga Teacher Training with Devon Schmidt at Day Yoga in Dayton. I began teaching a regular Yoga class at Day Yoga in March 2022, graduated with my 200-Hour Certification in July 2022, and registered with Yoga Alliance in August 2022. I am a Certified Chair Yoga Teacher through Yoga Heals Us with Karen O'Donnell Clark and completed my 300-Hour Teacher Training with Michelle Young of My Vinyasa Practice in Austin, TX. My teacher training at Day Yoga led me to a community of yoga practitioners and friends that I will forever be grateful for. It renewed my sense of purpose and started me on a trajectory that led to the inspiration for Sukha Inspired Yoga.

In addition to yoga, I have extensive study in sound healing. I have completed my Level One Sound Healing Practitioner Training with Sound Healing Academy under Natalie Brown and will be completing my Level Two Sound Healing Training with SHA in December 2025. This journey has expanded my ability to support others in their healing process through the powerful vibrations of sound. I provide soothing sound baths, as well as tailored 1:1 sound sessions to address physical, mental, and emotional support to individuals.

In my professional life, I have spent over 20 years in social service roles serving persons living with developmental and intellectual disabilities. My motivation has always been to help others, and I have experienced deep purpose through my career. However, opening Sukha Inspired Yoga has been the most exciting and fulfilling privilege of my life. It is my prayer that I can encourage and support anyone interested in this life-changing practice.

Beyond Sukha Inspired Yoga, I am deeply committed to serving my local community. I am the Vice President of Karma Inspired Yoga, a 501 nonprofit dedicated to making yoga accessible through donation-based and sliding-scale offerings. I also served and helped found Englewood RISE from July 2023-August 2025, a community-focused nonprofit working to uplift and support the local area. My involvement in community well-being initiatives has grown tremendously, and I am honored to contribute to programs that promote connection, accessibility, and holistic wellness.

I hope you don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or needs. Please stop by for a cup of tea and a chat—I promise to meet you with an open heart and mind. 💛

Q-What inspired you to be a yoga teacher?

A-I spent 20 years in systems designed to help support others. As many of us do, I felt called to employment roles that supported people in some way. After years of spending my efforts looking for external ways to relieve people's suffering, I found myself severely drained and depleted. It had grown evident to me that systems could help and they have a role to fill, but systems can't heal you. I realized I no longer wanted to be a "helper". I wanted to lead people to healing. Having a dedicated yoga practice and knowing that there were simple, accessible, powerful practices that could ease suffering, I felt a desire to deepen my yoga practice through a teacher training. I went to yoga teacher training without any real expectation; let alone with a plan to leave my 20 year career and open a yoga studio! But wow, I am so glad I did. Englewood has opened it’s arms wide to Sukha Inspired Yoga. It is truly the privilege of my life to spread the beauty and richness of Yoga with my community.

Q-Where and with whom did you train?

A-I trained at Day Yoga under Devon Schmidt for my 200 hour study, I completed my 25 hour Chair Yoga certification with Karen Clark O’Donnell of Yoga Heals Us. I completed an additional 300 hours of study under Michelle Young of My Vinyasa Practice. I have also completed my Level One and Level Two Diploma programs for Sound Healing through The Sound Healing Academy and my teacher Natalie Brown.

Q-How long have you been teaching and what styles of class do you teach?

A- I have been teaching since March 2022.  I currently teach Chair, Gentle, and Vinyasa. I also lead the Metta Meditation (Loving Kindness Lunch Hour) each week.

Q-How do you continue to deepen your own practice and knowledge?

A-I do my best to work on a daily meditation practice, and I strive to read something daily about teaching yoga or studying yoga philosophy. The most important part of my practice is deepening my ability to meet myself where I am at. If a day goes by and I didn’t get on my mat, didn't get to read, didn't find time to meditate, then I can remember to practice Ahimsa (non-harm) and Loving Kindness which includes loving and accepting all parts of myself and remembering I am whole and complete no matter what I accomplish or produce each day.

Q-Are there any future projects, events, etc you are working on?

A-So many! I have so many ideas for workshops and projects both yoga and non-yoga related. One project that I am active with is working with an organization called Englewood RISE. This is a group of local citizens who are working to bring community events and business education to the Englewood community. We are working hard to bring at least 3 events a year to Englewood this year and have lots of plans to continue building! Check out RISE and follow us on FB .

Selected Quote from Amber:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
