What initially drew you to yoga and how has your practice evolved since then?
I first started doing yoga about 2 years ago just to support my daughter who was training to be a yoga teacher. Since then I've taken up the practice and do it regularly. I feel calmer and stronger, which makes me want to be on my mat everyday.
How has yoga impacted your life on and off the mat?
Yoga has given me a place to sit with myself and breathe. I've struggled with anxiety my whole life, I find myself doing breathing practices when I'm feeling stressed. As I age, I want to stay active. Being strong is different for everyone, strong to me is being able to move with ease to play with my kids and grandkids. I find moving on my mat spills over into the rest of my life. It makes me more active all the time.
What advice would you give someone who is new to yoga or considering starting a practice?
I started yoga after 50. You can start yoga exactly where you are today, I've found that yoga always meets me exactly where I'm at. It's such a supportive community, always happy you showed up for yourself with zero judgment.
In what ways do you see yoga continuing to play a role in your future?
I will always have yoga in my life in some way. I feel more at ease in my mind and body than I ever have. Surrounding myself with a positive community makes me want to be better, I love that.
