What advice would you give someone who is new to yoga or considering starting a practice?

Just try it and try different styles before dismissing the idea. There are many different styles and there will be at least one that resonates with you. A good restorative class is a good fit for everyone..

Can you share a memorable "aha" moment or breakthrough experience you have had through yoga?

Practicing Yoga is great for building balance and stability. I realized how much I needed this the first time I tried to do Bird Dog and could hardly hold the balance!

How has yoga impacted your life on and off the mat?

Practicing Yoga has taught me appreciation for the calm. I use deep breathing to help bring back calm during times of stress.

In what ways do you see yoga continuing to play a role in your future?

I plan to continue practicing rebuilding my strength and stability. I believe this is a good path to aging gracefully.

Are there any specific yoga poses or practices that have been particularly transformative for you?

I have 3 favorite poses. 1) The Yogi Squat 2) Forward fold & 3) Legs up the wall because they all offer relief for back pain.

What initially drew you to yoga and how has your practice evolved since then?

I was first introduced to yoga over 10 years ago. I tried a few different studio’s but did not practice regularly until I found a studio I felt I belonged in Vandalia. I practiced regularly for several years until that studio was closed during Covid and never reopened. I tried several online practices, but that just didn’t work for me. I have been practicing regularly since September 2024 at Sukha, and I love it. I feel it’s a good fit for me – both instructors & fellow students are awesome.
